Even if you can’t use your boat at the moment, you should never cancel your insurance. Damage also happens in winter storage.

Traditionally, the water sports season begins in many areas around Easter. The operators in the marinas are busy, motorboats and sailboats are woken up from their “winter sleep” and last-minute work is done before the first trip. The current situation will most likely delay these activities somewhat, especially since trips for private purposes should currently be avoided as a matter of principle unless they are absolutely necessary.

Those who are thinking about cancelling their boat insurance because of the possible shorter period of use of their boat should quickly refrain from doing so. Because even on land or in winter storage, damage occurs time and again that is only covered by a valid insurance policy. This can be a tear in the tarpaulin that allows water to penetrate and perhaps has only a minor effect, but also a defective battery charger that causes a fire and leads to a total loss.

Sandra Ahrabian, CEO of BAVARIA AG, says: “Every year we get reports of damage occurring on land and even before the season. Particularly when people don’t look after things so often in some ports, insurance reliably protects every owner. I recommend our premium product for this, the all-risk cover.”

With this boat insurance, everything is covered that is not explicitly excluded. The scope of benefits of a usual comprehensive insurance is thus significantly increased – unlike, for example, single-risk cover, where all insured risks are listed individually.
