In most EU countries, boat owners must be able to show certain documents during inspections.
When the season is just around the corner and the first cruise beckons, administrative matters concerning the boat sometimes fall out of focus. Then it’s often a matter of an undiscovered small damage, minor repair work or the installation of a new electronic device. Therefore, BAVARIA AG would like to remind all captains and boat owners once again to carry the liability certificate on board. It is compulsory in most EU countries and is renewed annually.
Whether on Lake Garda, in Croatia, on the Balearic Islands, in the Aegean Sea, the Baltic Sea or in St. Tropez – the authorities often carry out random checks, especially at anchorage.
It then becomes problematic if the valid liability certificate cannot be shown to the officials. This can even lead to the ship not being allowed to move until proof of insurance has been provided. Especially during the holiday season, this is an annoying and avoidable incident.
Sandra Aharabian, CEO of BAVARIA AG, says: “We actually get excited calls every year from customers who have forgotten their certificate and need immediate assistance on the spot. Bavaria AG has a hotline for this, which solves the problem immediately. It is better, however, to place the liability certificate securely on board.”
BAVARIA AG issues the certificates six weeks before they are due and thus sends them out in good time before the previous year’s certificate expires. By the way, this applies to all motor or sailing yachts, dinghies and jet skis.
